Repede is a good boy.Flair/banner images from,. RemakeNot a remake, just a port. So it's still a 10 yo game, nothing differs from the PS3 version save from the localization and some free DLCs.Would you say that the story is weaker?Yes.Doesn't mean it's bad tho, just that Abyss' story is great.Should I get the remake regardless? Why not if you're interested in the game.
There's more to a game than its story. And you won't necessarily share the opinion of others on the scenario. Actually Tales' strongest points are imo its gameplay and the interaction between its characters. If you care for the characters, if they grow on you, you'll tend to discover other good points along the road.On many points, Vesperia is an evolution of Abyss. It has more content, deeper gameplay and it's also prettier. Give it a chance and see how that works for you, the game is not particularly expensive anyway (and if you think it is, wait for some sales). Abyss is one of my favorites as well, and personally Vesperia's story just isn't very compelling to me.
However, that's not to say it won't be for you, as we all like things for our own reasons. What I'm personally struggling with is the slower pace of the plot, as well as it feeling a bit meandering, rather than being thematically focused/driven. Granted, I haven't beaten it yet, so my opinion may change down the line, but I'd say I'm near halfway through and I've run out of steam repeatedly. They were not.Symphonia and Abyss were written by Takumi Miyajima. Vesperia has 4 writers, and he's not one of them.If we're honest, the more writers a game has, the more it can feel like a mess, the more plot threads can be dropped. Having only 1 author doesn't necessarily make a game better, but it often means the game has more consistency as a result.I won't go in depth about this or deliver a lengthy opinion, to each their own after all.
But the way characters are developped in both games is different. Abyss is vastly more complete in this regard, to the point even antagonists get solid story line and you can establish good paralels with the God Generals and the cast. Vesperia doesn't even manage to give a decent backstory to every cast member.Luke & Yuri being written differently is not an issue, and isn't really related to the reasons why people think Abyss' story is better tho. They're both very popular (Yuri more than Luke actually), and the way they dealt with Yuri was refreshing. He is a grown ass man, supports the growth of his teamates and the way he evolved is subtle, it's not as in your face and grandiose than in Abyss, and there's nothing wrong with that. Whoops, guess it sounded like I didn’t like Yuri. I was just pointing out that they were very differently written.

I adore Yuri, much more than Luke. I like that he always stayed true to his ideals. He never compromised. I respect him for that. I also didn’t mean that Yuri didn’t have character development, though I guess I shouldn’t have written it in that way.
His development is definitely more subtle, compared to how outright Luke’s was. You can feel that he’s changed at the end, but somehow is still the same old Yuri. He’s a great character, and one of my favs.
